Within a municipality's public works department lies a host of opportunities to incorporate sustainability initiatives and there are several examples of successful projects right here in southwestern Pennsylvania. This upcoming "Greening Your Fleets & Streets" Learning Lab will highlight two successful local projects: Lower Impact Snow & Ice Control Techniques in North Fayette Township and Collier's Township New Solar Roof - the first one on a municipal building in Allegheny County. Additionally, participants will also learn about CNG opportunities for large vehicles.
During this free day-long program, participants will travel to each municipality for hands-on demonstrations and tours.
These programs are offered as part of the Sustainable Development Academy, a partnership of Local Government Academy and Sustainable Pittsburgh and are also offered in partnership with the Western PA Chapter of the American Public Works Association. This program is pending a approval of continuing education credits for public works professionals.
