Program Summary:  Fiber reinforced chip seal provides an economical, cost effective solution for treating and preventing the recurrence of cracking in road or pavement surfaces. Coupled with a fog seal application, traffic can resume in as little as 15-30 minutes. Using these new technologies can enhance the life of road surfaces and result in cost savings.

• Understand how fiber reinforced chip seal produces sufficient tensile strength and flexibility to absorb movements in the pavement structure and can prevent the pavement from cracking.
• Improve aggregate retention and provide a long-lasting waterproof black appearance to the roadway using a fog seal application.
• Integrate these technologies to enhance surface stability and extend pavement life.
